Newport Town Manager, Paul Brown announced that April 22, 2012 had been declared Jesse W. Scott Day. Beneath the flags of nation, state and division, a procession of speakers from state Sen. Bob Odell to the president of the 10th Mountain Division Assn’s New England Chapter expressed their gratitude for Bro. Scott’s lifetime of giving back. Some thanked him for this service to the nation in Europe during World War II, others for this dedication to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, and other for his sheer presence in the community. More than a dozen Masons from Cheshire-Mt. Vernon Lodge were on hand for this great occasion. “We walk in the footsteps of giants,” said Wor. Master Bro. Mike Shklar. “And Jesse and his comrades from the 10th Mountain Division are those giants.”

Brother Jesse Stone just last year received his 60 year pin and Centenarian Award from the Most Worshipful Grand Master Brother Paul Leary last year. He will be celebrating his 105 th birthday this year.

The week of March eighteenth through the twenty fourth, 2012, saw record breaking warm temperatures and the earliest ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee in history. Buds were already appearing on trees and the tulips were sprouting up through the ground. Maple sugaring season was quickly coming to an end with such balmy temperatures. Thus, the backdrop was set for the thirtieth annual New England Brotherhood Night on March twenty fourth, 2012. A gathering of Masons from throughout New England coming together in fellowship and sharing in the warm camaraderie of our illustrious fraternity.

According to the “Historical Highlights of Freemasonry in New Hampshire”, the first Brotherhood Night was held on March twenty ninth, 1982, hosted by the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire, Carroll Fogg, Grand Master. Each year a different New England State hosts the annual Brotherhood Night, while the previous host provides an oral presentation to the assembly. These oral presentations include a myriad of topics woven around our Masonic history and experiences.

The night began with a social hour from three to four P. M. Cheese, crackers and beverages were served to the Brethren as Masons from all over New England socialized and solidified their Masonic bonds. Promptly at four o’clock, an opening welcome was given by the current Grand Master of the State of New Hampshire, and host, Paul M. Leary. Following the opening remarks, David Spiller, the Grand Lecturer of the State of New Hampshire gave the invocation. The Brethren were then seated and a hearty meal was served.

Guy Martineau, Junior Warden from Rising Sun Lodge in Nashua was our head chef. Prepared for the assemblage was a prime rib dinner, complete with a salad, mashed potatoes and green beans served in a delectable sauce with peach cobbler for desert. Our gracious servers were members of New Hampshire Demolay and Rainbow.

Following our bountiful dinner, Grand Master Leary introduced Richard Stewart, Grand Master of the State of Massachusetts. Grand Master Stewart began with an opening welcome and remarks to the Brethren. He then introduced John Solomonides who was to present the oral presentation to our Masonic gathering. Brother Solomonides shared with us a very personal and touching story of his father and his military history. He emphasized the camaraderie, friendship, loyalty and brotherly love which exist in the military as well as in our Masonic Brotherhood. He illustrated the correlation between the members of the two organizations and how they each are examples of the moral character we should all endeavor to pursue. Continuing on, he introduced other military friends that he knew in his life who also performed the kinds of actions and deeds that we should all use as a model for our own ives. At the conclusion of Brother Solomonides presentation, the Brethren rose to their feet in ovation and applauded in appreciation of the sharing of his memories and experiences.

Photographs were then taken of the highest ranking members of each state’s Grand Lodge Officers.

At the conclusion of the night, a tour of the New Hampshire Grand Lodge building was conducted, culminating with a visual and musical presentation in the Lodge Room. As the lights lowered, and the music introduced the night, the twinkling of stars appeared as dusk turned to darkness. The Lodge Room became as the night sky while the symphony filled the air in anticipation of the breaking dawn. Finally, from the East, a glimmer of light in what was to become the dawn of a new day. It was a splendid conclusion to the 2012 New England Brotherhood Night.

Leary traveled to the state’s northern most lodge in Colebrook to perform the Installation of Officers for Evening Star Lodge # 37. The Grand Master was assisted by RW David S. Collins, Junior Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge, and Wor. Bro. Paul M. Smith, Grand Steward.

RW George G. Heald, PDDGM, and a Past Master of Evening Star Lodge, took the obligation to again lead his Lodge. For the first time in many years the Lodge now has a full officer line with the junior officers being newer Brothers who are progressing towards the office of Master of their Lodge.

At the conclusion of the Installation, Wor. Bro. Peter Weiner, a Past Master of Evening Star Lodge, was presented with the Major Gen. John Sullivan Distinguished Service Award in Bronze by the Grand Master, for his dedicated service to the Lodge.

A group of over 45 Brethren, family and friends turned out to support the Lodge to witness the ceremony of installation and award presentation. It was the first time in modern times anyone could remember that the Grand Master coming to the Lodge perform the Installation. All in attendance would agree Masonry is prospering in the North Country as well as throughout the State.

A Master Mason Degree for three candidates is being planned for the future. It is good to see
interest from younger men growing in Burns Lodge.

I had the opportunity to welcome the guests and say thanks to the Officers and visitors before turning the Installation over to RW DDGM Bro. Darrell A. Louis. Following, the Officers vacated the room and returned wearing the proper aprons for the incoming administration.

RW Bro. Louis then proceeded to install the officers in due form with the assistance of W. District Education Officer Brother David A. Rich, RW Wayne P. Golden, PDDGM as Installing Chaplain, and myself as Installing Marshal.

The Ceremony was performed with dignity and decorum. Newly Installed Worshipful
Master Brother Jeremy William Allin now has the privilege of governing the Lodge.

I was pleased to serve North Star Lodge as Master for the last 2 years, but I look forward to someone else holding the reins for now. I will continue to act as Lodge Reporter so you will still hear from me in that capacity.

Here’s to a good year for the 2012 Officers of North Star Lodge.

Certainly the leadership changes but this is the time we “renew” our commitment to the Lodge, the community and the Craft in general.”

The new incoming Master, Jerry Parziale has been one of the most active and faithful members of the Lodge but for various reasons it was not his time to take the Oriental Chair.

Today it was.

With the assistance of RW’s Stew Aronson, Dave Spiller, Bill Sawyer, Mike Pettengill, Bob Sutherland, Wor. Don Willoughby and MW’s David Lamprey and Jerry Sawyer the new Master assumed his position.

Gideon Lodge like so many, ran into situations common to all; do we sell the building; do we merge with another Lodge; how do we attract new Brethren; how do we keep them active, etc. Working together they have found the secret and raised eight new Masons in the last two years, many of whom have taken Officer positions. The renewal of spirit has caught on in Kingston and was evident to the many family and friends who witnessed this ancient ceremony.

Shown are RW Aronson and the new Master, Worshipful Gerald Parziale.

Well done, Gideon Lodge. You have a bright future.

The family history dates back to Grandfather Richard J. Puleo, Sr. who was the Potentate at Bektash Temple in the early 1990’s. This continued with Rick Puleo, Jr. who is a Past Master of Mt. Lebanon Lodge #32, in Laconia and concluded recently with the installation of Wor.
Vincent R. Puleo. (since the new Master is engaged, who knows when the next generation might be added)

WM “Vincent” Puleo had his Jewel and Charge given by Wor. “Dad” Puleo and witnessed by many friends and family in a packed Lodge of standing room only.

Assisting in the installation was MW C. Wayne Libby, Jr., RW’s William S. Sawyer, John F. Gordon, Michael V. Pettengill, and Worshipful’s Michael R. Steward, Donald S. Meserve, Richard J. Puleo, Jr. and Brothers John T. Pond, Jr. and John Moulton, Grand Organist from our neighboring state of Maine.

The Lodge is named after MW Moses Paul who was Grand Master in 1858 and 1859. During his term GM Paul instituted the office of Grand Lecturer and set the stage for the semi-annual GL Communications.

The first picture is with the new Master, his fiancé Rachel Clennon, his mom Ruth Puleo and Grandmom Priscilla Puleo.

The second picture shows that all new Masters need the Tile adjusted and the third is the Gavel given by WM Puleo’s fiancé and Wor. “Dad” Paleo.

And a good time was had by all.

Worshipful Master George B. Chapman invited the Profile York Rite College Degree Team is do the Installation ceremony dressed in Grand Royal Arch Chapter regalia.

This was a semi-public Installation Ceremony and the Installing members of the team were considered guests of the Worshipful Master. With that decision in mind, we arranged a Team to meet the criteria.

Three’s were wild at Saint James Lodge #102 for the installation of Alan E. Jones.

1. Three scholarships
2. Three Gavels to the incoming Master, and
3. Three Grand Masters who were raised in this Lodge

At the afternoon session held on Saturday, more than 85 Masons, family and friends gathered to
celebrate the installation of Wor. Alan E. Jones, during this 50th year of the Lodges founding.

The afternoon started by presenting scholarships to three deserving students from Winnacunnet
High School in Hampton. This has been a long standing tradition and is part of the Lodges community
involvement. During the presentation, a show of hands indicated about half of those present had been
associated with the local School (including the Supreme GM, Maggie Leary)

The installation ceremony was conducted by a “gold crew” made up of Saint James alumni including,
MW Jeremy Sawyer, MW David Lamprey, Roger Clark, Manfred Muscara, Harold Fernald, Richard
Chevalier and David Williams. During the ceremony Wor. Alan E. Jones received three Gavel’s; one
from the installing officer, one from his lovely wife Cindy and a home-made gavel from his father-in-law.
Maybe he can alternate their use during the meetings.

At picture time we had the opportunity to see three Grand Masters who were raised at Saint James
Lodge, PGM Jeremy J. Sawyer, PGM David J. Lamprey and our Presiding Grand Master Paul M. Leary.
Also interesting to note was that PGM Lamprey was Master at the time GM Paul Leary was raised. How
many times have you raised a Brother and wondered what his Masonic future would be ?

The afternoon concluded with words of thanks from Wor. Alan E. Jones, who introduced many family
members including his mom. The afternoon was capped off with a great ham and bean supper.

Quite a day,
