Most Worshipful Brother John F. Gordon, PGM

Most Worshipful Brother Gordon attended Raymond Public Schools and graduated from Raymond High School in Raymond, New Hampshire. He continued with his education and graduated from Franklin Pierce University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
John was a banker for more than thirty-three years and worked for several banks during his career. He held positions such as Vice President of Operations, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Loan Officer, and Loan Review Officer. He retired from banking in March 2004.
Brother John served his country for almost 32 years of which 27 ½ years was with the New Hampshire Air National Guard, at Pease Air National Guard Base, New Hampshire, and almost 4 ½ years with the Air Force Reserve at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. While serving in the guard, he was the First Sergeant for the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron for more than sixteen years and was the squadron Outstanding Airman of the Year in 1984. In October 1998, he transferred to the Air Force Reserve at Hanscom Air Force Base to assume the position of acting Senior Enlisted Advisor for the reserve commander. John retired in January 2003 in the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
John was involved with youth organizations in his community for many years. He was the Treasurer for Cub Scout Pack 26 for three years; he coached Little League Baseball for seven years and was an adult leader and Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scout Troop 26, for eleven years. He was responsible for doing all the Citizenship Merit Badges and the Finance Merit Badge.
In Masonry, Brother John began his Masonic journey in Tucker Lodge No. 99 in Raymond, New Hampshire and was Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on May 26, 1964. He was installed as Junior Deacon in January 1965, and in January 1973, he was installed Worshipful Master, a position he would hold four more times in 1974, 1985, 1989, and 2019. He is an Honorary Member of Saint James Lodge No. 102 in Hampton, New Hampshire.
In Grand Lodge, Brother Gordon was appointed Grand Steward in 1992 and 1993; Grand Sword Bearer in 1998 and 1999; Grand Steward in 2000; District Deputy Grand Lecturer for District 1 in 2001 and 2002 and District Deputy Grand Master for District 1 in 2003 and 2004. Brother Gordon was appointed to the position of Junior Grand Deacon by Most Worshipful Grand Master, David J. Lamprey, Sr., in 2005, and on May 16, 2015, he was installed as the 115th Most Worshipful Grand Master, a position he would hold for two years. After retiring as Grand Master, Brother Gordon was elected Deputy Grand Treasurer, a position he served in for six years. In 2023, he was elected to the position of Grand Treasurer, which he currently holds. He is also the Grand Representative for Rhode Island, Puerto Rico, and Sweden.
In 1984, Brother Gordon received from his Lodge, the prestigious Major General John Sullivan Distinguished Service Award in Bronze for his untiring dedication and devotion to his Lodge and to Masonry. In 2003, his Lodge again bestowed upon him the same award in silver, and in 2014, he received the same award in gold. In 2018, Most Worshipful John E. Lobdell presented Brother Gordon with New Hampshire’s highest award, the Jeremy Ladd Cross medal.
Brother Gordon has been a member of Scottish Rite since January 1965 in the Valley of Portsmouth/Dover. He was Thrice Potent Master in 1981 and 1982; Sovereign Prince in 1986 and 1987, and Most Wise Master in 1994. He is also a member of New Hampshire Consistory and served as Commander-in-Chief in 2005 and 2006. He directed Scottish Rite Degrees for more than 15 years and did makeup prior to that for 8 years. In September 1987, Brother Gordon was coroneted a 33rd Degree in Boston, Massachusetts, and became an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council. He currently serves on the Finance Committees for the Valley of Portsmouth/Dover, New Hampshire Consistory, and the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire.
Brother Gordon is a member of York Rite, Bektash Shrine, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Portsmouth Chapter, National Sojourners #386, and Hero’s of 76. Brother Gordon has received numerous awards throughout his journey in Masonry. In June 2012, he received the prestigious DeMolay Legion of Honor. In March 2017, he became an Honorary Member of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay, and in November 2018, he received the prestigious Grand Cross of Color from the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. He has also received two distinguished awards from other jurisdictions: in June 2017, the Phillip C. Tucker award from the Grand Lodge of Vermont, and in November 2018, the John Blair, Jr., award from the Grand Lodge of Virginia.
John was married on August 15, 1971, to Constance L. Hardy and they were blessed with two sons, Daren in 1974, and Jeffrey in 1977. They have one granddaughter, Anna Marie, and two grandsons, Thomas and William. John has been a longtime member of the Raymond Congregational Church in Raymond, New Hampshire. His hobbies include flying, as he is a licensed pilot, snowmobiling, traveling, railroading, and golf.
