On Wednesday evening, June 13, 2018, Worshipful Orman Hall, Strafford Lodge #29 called upon Right Worshipful Brother David Cumming, DDGM District 5 to present the Lewis Jewel to Brother Griffin Brock Hanson. Right Worshipful Cumming noted the dates that each Grandfather and Brother Griffin Hanson were raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Brother Griffin Hanson is the grandson of Worshipful Brother Tony Induisi, Past Master of Strafford Lodge No. 29 and Brother Dan Hanson, Moses Paul Lodge No. 96. Right Worshipful Cumming made the presentation with Brother Hanson being flanked by both of his proud and still very active Masonic grandfathers.
We know that Brother Griffin Hanson will proudly wear his three-bar Lewis Jewel bearing the names of both his paternal and maternal grandfathers. In addition to his grandfather’s, it was observed that Brother Hanson’s extended family includes Worshipful Brother Stanley “Stubb” Merrill, Past Master of Libanus Lodge No. 49 and that his middle name came from the last name of Lester Brock, a member of Moses Paul Lodge # 96. Truly a deep and rich Masonic heritage consisting of relatives in three different Lodges in the Strafford County, New Hampshire area.
Following the presentation, Right Worshipful Brother David Akridge, DDGEO District 5 presented an education program titled “The Operative and Speculative Significance of the Lewis” and concluded with the speculation that all who wear “The Lewis Jewel” “hold it as an outward sign of the Masonic lineage of the generations.”
